This Area is well known for its attempts at secession and its desire to be made an independent country. Its struggle for sovereignty has been thus far unsuccessful.

It lies approximately 9 kilometres north-west of Giżycko and 83 km north-east of the regional capital Olsztyn. Before 1945 the area was part of Germany. The village has a population of 30. Fuleda was set up in 1505 as one of few royal villages in Masurian region belonging to the Polish royal family. Since 1561 it was mainly populated by Polish farmers.
