Zhukov is a town and the administrative center of Zhukovsky District of Kaluga Oblast, Russia, located on the Ugodka River 90 kilometers northwest of Kaluga. Population: 12,131; 12,306; 2,888. Zhukov was founded in the early 17th century. It has been known as a settlement of Ugodsky Zavod (Уго́дский Заво́д) since 1656 due to the construction of an ironworks. In 1974, it was renamed Zhukovo (Жу́ково) in honor of Georgy Zhukov.

Battle of Maloyaroslavets

The Battle of Maloyaroslavets took place on 24 October 1812, between the Russians, under Marshal Mikhail Illarionovich Kutuzov, and part of the corps of Eugène de Beauharnais, Napoleon's stepson, under General Alexis Joseph Delzons which numbered about 20,000 strong.

Luzha River

Luzha River is a river in Kaluga Oblast in Russia, which originates in Moscow Oblast. It is a right tributary of the Protva River. The length of the river is 159 km . The area of its drainage basin is 1,400 km . The Luzha freezes up in November (rarely in December) and breaks up in April. The town of Maloyaroslavets, the site of an important battle during the French invasion of Russia, is located on the Luzha River.
