The area of the district is 3,660 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Chukhloma. Population: 11,346; 13,574; 15,466. Chukhloma
Chukhloma is a town and the administrative center of Chukhlomsky District of Kostroma Oblast, Russia, located on Lake Chukhloma, 50 kilometers from the railway node Galich and 171 kilometers northeast of Kostroma. Population: 5,411; 5,464; 5,597. It was first mentioned in chronicles in 1381, and was destroyed during the Time of Troubles. It was granted town status in 1778. Near the town there is a historical family estate of the Lermontov family.
