Fatezh

Fatezh is a town and the administrative center of Fatezhsky District of Kursk Oblast, Russia, located on the Usozha River 45 kilometers north of Kursk. Population: 5,404; 5,710; 5,712; 4,959 (1897). Fatezh was founded as a village in the 17th century and granted town status in 1779. The town took its name from a local stream; the etymology is uncertain, but it may be based on the given names Foty or Iosafat in diminutive form (place names in -ezh are common in the region).

South-West State University

South-West State University (former Kursk State Technical University) (Russian: Юго-Западный государственный университет, Yugo-Zapadnyj gosudarstvennyj universitet), for a time the КurskSTU, kurskij politeh. South-West State University was founded in 1964 as Kursk Politechnical Institute. Its current rector is Sergej Emeljanov. In 1995, the university was renamed to Kursk State Technical University. In 2010 it was renamed to South-West State University.
