Central Federal District

The Central Federal District (Russian: Центра́льный федера́льный о́круг, Tsentralny federalny okrug) is one of the eight federal districts of Russia. The word "Central" has a political and historical meaning. Geographically, the district is situated in the extreme west of Russia. The district spans an area of 652,800 square kilometers, with a population of 38,427,537 (81.3% urban) according to the 2010 Census. The Presidential Envoy to the Central Federal District is Alexander Beglov.

Pushchino Radio Astronomy Observatory is a Russian (former Soviet) radio astronomy observatory. It was developed by Lebedev Physical Institute (LPI), Russian Academy of Sciences within a span of twenty years. It was founded on April 11, 1956, and currently occupies 70 000 square meters.
