Zubtsov
Zubtsov is a town and the administrative center of Zubtsovsky District of Tver Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Volga and Vazuza Rivers, 153 kilometers south of Tver, 18 kilometers southeast of Rzhev, and 44 kilometers southwest of Staritsa. Population: 6,927; 7,430; 7,630; 8,100 (1998 est.). Zubtsov was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1216. In the Middle Ages, it was a border fortress of the Principality of Tver.

Vazuza River
Vazuza is a river in Smolensk Oblast and Tver Oblast, Russia, a right tributary of the Volga River. Length: 162 km, watershed area: 7120 km². The lower part of the river has been transformed into Vazuza Reservoir. The towns of Sychyovka and Zubtsov are located on the Vazuza (the latter at its confluence with the Volga).

Rzhev (air base)
Rzhev (also given as Ryev, Rzev, Rjzev) is an air base in Tver Oblast, Russia located 5 km east of Rzhev. It was a Tupolev Tu-128 depot airfield during the Cold War, operated by BKhAT (Aviation Equipment Storage Base). The airfield also had an interceptor role during the 1960s and 1970s with the 23 IAP (23rd Interceptor Aviation Regiment) flying Sukhoi Su-9 jets. This regiment was disbanded in the 1980s but was resurrected a decade later at Dzemgi in the Russian Far East.
