École Technique Officielle

The École Technique Officielle was a Salesian secondary school in Kigali, Rwanda. On April 11, 1994, during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, over 2,000 Rwandans abandoned by the UN, in the school in which they set up base to supervise the peace between the Hutu and Tutsi, were murdered by extremist militia. This event is the subject of the movie Shooting Dogs by Michael Caton-Jones.

Nyarugenge District

Nyarugenge is a district (akarere) in Kigali Province, Rwanda. It is based around the city centre of Kigali (which is actually towards the west of the urban area and the province), and contains most of the city's businesses.

Geography of Rwanda

At 26,338 square kilometres, Rwanda is the world's 149th-largest country. It is comparable in size to Haiti or the state of Maryland in the United States. The entire country is at a high altitude: the lowest point is the Rusizi River at 950 metres above sea level. Rwanda is located in Central/Eastern Africa, and is bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, and Burundi to the south.

Hôtel des Mille Collines

The Hôtel des Mille Collines is a large hotel in Kigali, Rwanda. It became famous after 1,268 people took refuge inside the building during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. The story of the hotel and its manager at that time, Paul Rusesabagina, was used as the basis of the film Hotel Rwanda.
