Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital is the third largest hospital in the world after the West China hospital of Medical Sciences, Sichuan University and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital at Linkou, occupying 173 acres, with 3 200 beds and 6 760 staff members. The hospital is in the Soweto area south of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is one of the 40 Gauteng provincial hospitals, and is financed and managed by the Gauteng Provincial Department of Health.

Avalon Cemetery

Avalon Cemetery is one of the largest graveyards in South Africa. It was opened in 1972, during the height of apartheid, as a graveyard exclusively for blacks. More than 300,000 people are buried on its 430 acres, the graves less than two feet apart. By 2010 the cemetery is expected to be at capacity, largely because of AIDS deaths.

Mandela House

The Nelson Mandela National Museum, commonly referred to as the Mandela House, is the house in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa, that former South African president Nelson Mandela lived in from 1946 to 1962. It is located at number 8115, at the corner of Vilakazi and Ngakane streets, as short distance up the road from the home of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. Mandela donated the house to the Soweto Heritage Trust (of which he is the founder) on 1 September 1997, to run as a museum.

Hector Pieterson Museum

The Hector Pieterson Museum is a large museum located in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa, two blocks away from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed. The museum is named in his honour. It became one of the first museums in Soweto when it opened in 16 June 2002. A companion museum nearby is Mandela House, the former home of Nelson Mandela and his family, which has been run as a museum since 1997.
