Mokopane Biodiversity Conservation Centre

Established in 1979 and opened to the public in October 1981, as a satellite station of the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa (NZG), Pretoria Zoo. In 2004 the NZG was proclaimed as a National Facility, as part of the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF). The center is located in the north entrance to the town of Mokopane, in the Limpopo province of South Africa.

Limpopo

Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the second biggest river in Africa Limpopo River that flows across the province; the name "Limpopo" has its etymological origin from the Sepedi word diphororo tsa meetse - meaning strong gushing waterfalls. Sepedi language is spoken by a third of the people in the province. The capital is Polokwane, formerly named Pietersburg.

Moorddrift Monument

The Moorddrift Monument (lit. Murder Ford Monument) is a provincial heritage site in Potgietersrus in the Limpopo province of South Africa. In 1993 it was described in the Government Gazette as This simple but important little monument stands under two large camelthorn trees beside the national road 16 km south of Potgietersrust, just where the road used to cross the Nyl River by a drift. It commemorates the murder of a number of settlers in this region.

Makapansgat

Makapansgat is an archeological location within the Makapansgat and Zwartkrans Valleys, northeast of Mokopane in Limpopo province, South Africa. It is an important paleontological site, with the local limeworks containing Australopithecus-bearing deposits dating to between 3.0 and 2.6 million years BP.

Doorndraai Dam

Doorndraai Dam is a buttress type dam on the Sterk River, Mogalakwena River basin, located near Mokopane, Limpopo, South Africa. It was established in 1952 and has been renovated in 1974. Its primary purpose is for municipal and industrial use. The hazard potential is ranked to be high.
