Gibraltar–Spain border

The Gibraltar-Spain border is the international boundary between the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar and Spain. It is also referred to as Spanish: La frontera de Gibraltar (The frontier of Gibraltar) or simply as The Frontier. The border runs east-west for a total of 1.2 kilometres separating Gibraltar from the neighbouring Spanish municipality of La Línea de la Concepción.

Disputed status of the isthmus between Gibraltar and Spain

The Gibraltar territory currently contains an 800-metre long section of the isthmus that links the Rock with mainland Spain. Spain does not acknowledge British sovereignty over Gibraltar beyond the fortified perimeter of the town as at 1704. The United Kingdom claims the southern part of the isthmus on the basis of continuous possession over a long period.

Thirteenth Siege of Gibraltar (1727)

The Siege of Gibraltar of 1727 saw Spanish forces besiege the British garrison of Gibraltar as part of the Anglo-Spanish War. Depending on the sources, Spanish troops numbered between 12,000 and 25,000. British defenders were 1,500 at the beginning of the siege, increasing up to about 5,000. After a five-month siege with several unsuccessful and costly assaults, Spanish troops gave up and withdrew.

Gibraltar International Airport

Gibraltar International Airport or North Front Airport is the civilian airport that serves the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The runway is owned by the Ministry of Defence for use by the Royal Air Force as RAF Gibraltar. Civilian operators use the airport; currently the only scheduled flights operate to the United Kingdom. Passengers depart and arrive through the civilian-operated terminal. NATS hold the contract for provision of air navigation services at LXGB.

Eastern Beach, Gibraltar

Eastern Beach is a sandy beach on the northeastern coast of the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It is located on the isthmus which joins the Rock of Gibraltar to Spain. The beach extends from the north of Catalan Bay to the runway of Gibraltar International Airport near the Gibraltar-Spain border. Although only several hundred metres long it is the largest beach on The Rock. The surrounding urban area is both residential and industrial.
