The September 2012 Baradan Bay, Turkey migrant boat disaster occurred in the early hours of September 6, 2012, in Baradan Bay, İzmir Province, western Turkey. A fishing boat carrying illegal migrants hit rocks and sank. 61 people died, 48 survived the incident. The 12 m long fishing boat left the village of Ahmetbeyli in the Menderes district of İzmir Province at 5:30 AM heading for the island of Samos to enter Greece illegally.

Notion (ancient city)

Notion or Notium was a Greek city-state on the west coast of Anatolia; it is about 50 kilometers south of Izmir in modern Turkey, on the Gulf of Kuşadası. Notion was located on a hill from which the sea was visible; it served as a port for nearby Colophon and Claros, and pilgrims frequently passed through on their way to the oracle of Apollo at Claros. There are still remains of the defense walls, necropolis, temple, agora, and theater.

Küçükmenderes River

Küçük Menderes, "Little Meander") or Cayster River is located south of İzmir, Turkey. The Cayster generally flows westward and arrive into the Aegean Sea at Pamucak beach near Selçuk, İzmir. The ancient city of Ephesus was once an important port on the Cayster, but over the centuries, sedimentation gradually filled in the inlet around the city. The coastlines moved seaward and the ruins of Ephesus are now some 5 miles inland from the coast.

Özdere

Özdere is a Turkish town in the Menderes district of İzmir Province on the Aegean coast. It has a population of around 13.500 (2006) and has a municipality. It is located approximately 33 kilometres west of Kuşadası and 40 kilometres to İzmir. It is a quiet holiday resort. It is on the Kuşadası-Selçuk-Seferihisar-Urla road. Until 1965 it was called Kesri.
