Adnan Menderes Airport

İzmir Adnan Menderes International Airport is an airport serving İzmir and is named after former Turkish prime minister Adnan Menderes. It is located in the Gaziemir area of İzmir. İzmir's main airport is located 18 km southwest of the city on the way to Selçuk, Ephesus and Pamukkale. The easiest way to get there from İzmir is by İZBAN commuter rail service or the Havaş airport shuttle bus (every 20 minutes, 35 to 60 minutes) from the Turkish Airlines office.

1974 Turkish Airlines Izmir crash

The 1974 Turkish Airlines Izmir crash occurred on January 26, 1974 when a Turkish Airlines Fokker F28-1000 Fellowship airliner, registration TC-JAO, named Van, on a domestic flight in Turkey from Izmir Cumaovası Airport (IZM) to Istanbul Yeşilköy Airport (IST/LTBA), stalled shortly after takeoff due to over rotation and frost accretion on the wings, crashed and caught fire. At around 7:30 local time, the aircraft ran on Runway 35 of approx. 3,200 ft and became airborne.

Gaziemir Air Base

Gaziemir Air Base (Turkish: Gaziemir Hava Üssü) is an airbase of the Turkish Air Force located 10 km south of Izmir, Turkey. It is owned by the Turkish Air Force and operated by the Air Force Training Command. The airport is situated at an elevation of 132 m above mean sea level. It has one runway in north-south direction, designated 17/35, with an asphalt surface measuring 1,357 m .

Altındağ, İzmir

For the district of Ankara with the same name, see Altındağ. For the mountain range bordering Tibet, see Altyn-Tagh Altındağ is a densely populated zone (semt) of İzmir's Bornova district. The main intercity bus terminal of İzmir - IZOTAŞ is situated in Altındağ's Işıkkent quarter and is minutes away from Altındağ centre by walking.

Buca Arena

Buca Arena is a football stadium in Izmir and is located near to Yedigöller, north of Buca. Construction began in 2008; the opening ceremony of the new stadium was in 2009. The official capacity of Buca Arena is 10,000. Near the stadium, a carpet area, two basketball courts, jogging paths and a 300 car parking lot are located. Bucaspor played its first official match against Çorumspor on 18 January 2009.
