Tosya

Tosya is a town and district of the Kastamonu Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. According to the 2000 census, the population of the district is 41,995 of which 23,257 live in the town of Tosya. The district covers an area of 1,186 km, and the town lies at an elevation of 1,231 m . The district produces a third of Turkey's total rice harvest. Timber is another important industry in Tosya.

The 1943 Tosya-Ladik earthquake occurred at 00:20 local time on 26 November, near Tosya, Kastamonu Province, in northern Turkey. The earthquake had an estimated magnitude of 7.2 and a maximum felt intensity of between IX–X (violent to intense) on the Mercalli intensity scale, causing 4,000 casualties.
