Zeugma, Commagene

Zeugma is an ancient city of Commagene; currently located in the Gaziantep Province of Turkey . It is a historical settlement which is considered among the four most important settlement areas under the reign of the kingdom of Commagene. It was named for the bridge of boats, or zeugma, which crossed the Euphrates there.

Battle of Nezib

The Battle of Nezib was fought on June 24, 1839 between Egypt and the Ottoman Empire. The Egyptians were led by Ibrahim Pasha, while the Ottomans were led by Hafiz Osman Pasha, with Moltke in command of the Ottoman artillery. The Ottoman were positioned at Mezar, southwest of Nezib, with the Nezib river on their left. Ibrahim advanced his force, under heavy Ottoman artillery fire, towards the Ottoman lines.

Rumkale

Rumkale was a powerful fortress on the river Euphrates, 50 km west of Şanlıurfa. It is called Hromkla or kela zêrîn in Kurdish, Qal'ah Rumita in Syriac, Qal'at al-Rum (قلعة الروم) in Arabic Rumkale in Turkish, Հռոմկլա ('Hromkla) in Armenian; the name means "Roman Castle (by extension also Byzantine)" in all cases. Its strategic location was already known to the Assyrians, although the present structure is largely Hellenistic and Roman in origin.
