Aeroflot Flight 8381

Aeroflot Flight 8381 was the designation on a scheduled flight of a two-engined Tupolev Tu-134 which departed Tallinn Airport in Estonia, at 10:38 am on 3 May 1985, for Chişinău in Moldova, making a stopover at Lviv, Ukraine. While descending to Lviv in overcast weather, it collided at 12:13 with a Soviet Air Force Antonov An-26 which had just taken off from Lviv. The collision occurred at an altitude of 13,000 feet.

Zolochiv Castle

Zolochiv Castle was a residence of the Sobieski noble family on a hill at the confluence of two small rivers in the south-eastern part of Zolochiv, Galicia. The rectangular fort was built in 1634-36 by Jakub Sobieski using the labor of enslaved Crimean Tatars. The Sobieski castle comprised solid walls in a then current Dutch style, with four pentagonal towers at each corner, and the so-called "grand palace".

Olesko

Oles'ko is small town in Lviv Oblast of western Ukraine. It was the seat of the rebbes of Alesk, and also the birthplace of Jan III Sobieski, the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. The earliest mentioned Jewish community is in 1500. Oles'ko was the place of residence of tzadikim in the 19th century. In 1935 its Jewish population was 738.

Pidhirtsi

Pidhirtsi is a village of about 1000 inhabitants in the Lviv Oblast of Ukraine, located about 80 km east of Lviv, 17 km south of Brody, 60 km north west of Ternopil, at around {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:49|56|39|N|24|58|49|E| |primary |name= }}. Known both for its castle and Basilian monastery of the Annunciation with an icon of the Mother of God.

Pidhirtsi Castle

Pidhirtsi Castle is a residential castle-fortress located in the village of Pidhirtsi in Lviv Oblast western Ukraine, located eighty kilometers east of Lviv. It was constructed by Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan between 1635–1640 by order of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's Grand Crown Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski, on the place of the older fortress.
