Mission San Pedro y San Pablo de Bicuñer

Mission San Pedro y San Pablo de Bicuñer was founded on January 7, 1781 by Father Francisco Garcés to protect the Anza Trail where it forded the Colorado River. The settlement, located about ten miles northeast of Yuma Crossing, was not part of the California mission chain, but was administered as a part of the Arizona missions.

Yuma Project

The Yuma Project is a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation project built to irrigate over 68,000 acres of land in Yuma County, Arizona and parts of Imperial County, California. The project is designed to exploit year-round farming conditions and water from the Colorado River. It consists of the Laguna Diversion Dam, pumping plants, a power plant, a 53-mile system of canals, 218 miles of lateral canals, levees and drains. The project began in 1903 and the majority of the work was completed by 1915.

Paradise Casino

The Paradise Casino is a small casino located in Yuma, Arizona. Until recently, it was the only casino in the north of Yuma and Winterhaven. The recently opened Q Casino, 7 miles west on the road to Algodones, Baja California has affected its overall popularity. In Arizona south of Winterhaven, across the Colorado River, the Cocopah Casino serves the southern region of the city of Yuma and Yuma County. The Cocopah Casino also serves two towns to the south: Somerton and San Luis, Arizona.
