Fremont Valley

For the former town, see Fremont Valley, California. The Fremont Valley is a valley located in the western Mojave Desert of California. It stretches from the town of Mojave approximately 70 km northeast to the foothills of the Lava Mountains and Summit Range. The valley is home to Koehn Dry Lake and the Desert Tortoise Natural Area, as well as the communities of California City and Cantil, California.

Desert Tortoise Natural Area

The Desert Tortoise Natural Area (DTNA) is a 39.5-square-mile area northeast of California City, California set aside for the California State Reptile, the Desert Tortoise. The area is located at the southwestern end of the Rand Mountains in the Mojave Desert, and has an interpretive center for visitors. The Bureau of Land Management recognized the significance of the area and designated it an "Area of Critical Environmental Concern" and as a "Research Natural Area" in 1980.

Wonder Acres, Kern County, California

Wonder Acres is a settlement in Kern County, California, USA, 4 miles (6 km) east of Cache Creek, at the intersection of State Route 14 and California City Blvd. It began when Mr. Wonder drilled for oil (ca 1950) and found water, subdivided the land north of California City Blvd. and east of State Route 14, piped water to five acre plots, and sold them. Douglas C-133 Cargomaster

The Douglas C-133 Cargomaster was a large cargo aircraft built between 1956 and 1961 by the Douglas Aircraft Company for use with the United States Air Force. The C-133 was the USAF's only production turboprop-powered strategic airlifter, entering service shortly after Lockheed's better known C-130 Hercules, which was known as a tactical airlifter. It provided airlift services in a wide range of applications, being replaced by the C-5 Galaxy in the early 1970s.

Honda Proving Center of California

Honda Proving Center of California (HPCC) is a test track established in 1990, and used primarily for testing Honda and Acura automobiles. Motorcycles are also tested there. HPCC is located near Cantil, California, in Kern County. Security is tight, and pilots flying near the track have reported seeing cars immediately heading for cover as they got close to the facility. HPCC has a 7.5 mile oval track, as well as a five-mile winding road course.
