Burro Schmidt Tunnel

The Burro Schmidt Tunnel, located in Kern County, California near Garlock, is a half-mile long (0.8 km) tunnel dug entirely by hand, constructed over a 32-year period by William "Burro" H. Schmidt (1871–1954). The tunnel is near the summit of a 4,400 foot (1,340 m) mountain in the El Paso Mountains of eastern California.

Koehn Lake

Koehn Lake is a dry lake, and seasonally endorheic lake, in the Fremont Valley of the Mojave Desert of Kern County, California, 19 km northeast of California City and east of Red Rock Canyon State Park. The lake is approximately 5 miles long and 3 miles at its widest point. Nearby Saltdale, California was founded in 1915 for salt harvesting from the dry lakebed.
