KABX-FM is an adult contemporary formatted radio station in Merced, California. KABX is owned and operated by Mapleton Communications LLC. KABX can be heard in a very large area from approximately Modesto, CA, to south of Fresno, CA. It sometimes can be heard as far north as the Eastern portions of the Bay Area. It was founded during the California Gold Rush, and was the site of the first authorized gold stamping mill, or mint, in California. The stamping mill was built in 1850-51 by Moffat and Company, operating under the authority of Augustus Humbert, who had been appointed by President John Tyler to be the federal Assayer for California.

Lake McClure

Lake McClure is an artificial lake in western Mariposa County, California, about 40 miles east of Modesto. It is formed by the New Exchequer Dam impounding the Merced River, a tributary of the San Joaquin River. The lake was first created by the original Exchequer Dam, built between 1924 and 1926, a concrete gravity arch dam. Exchequer Reservoir's original capacity was 281,000 acre·ft .
