Mettler, California
Mettler, or Mettler Station, is a heavily Hispanic, low-income unincorporated area and census-designated place in Kern County, California. The population was 136 at the 2010 census, down from 157 at the 2000 census. It is the place where motion picture actor James Dean received a traffic ticket on the last day of his life.

1952 Kern County earthquake
The 1952 Kern County earthquake occurred on July 21 at the southern end of California's central valley and measured 7.3 on the moment magnitude scale with a maximum perceived intensity of XI (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale, though this intensity rating was not indicative of the majority of damage in the area. The main shock occurred at 4:52 am Pacific Daylight Time, killed 12 people and injured 18, and caused more than $40 million in property damage.

Edmonston Pumping Plant
Edmonston Pumping Plant is a pumping station near the south end of the California Aqueduct. It raises the water 1,926 feet (600 m) to cross the Tehachapi Mountains. The Edmonston Pumping Station requires so much power that several power lines off of Path 15 and Path 26 are needed to ensure proper operation of the pumps, and is the most powerful water lifting system in the world when not considering pumped-storage hydroelectricity stations.

Rancho El Tejon
Rancho El Tejon was a 97,617-acre Mexican land grant in the Tehachapi Mountains, in present day Kern County, California given in 1843 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to José Antonio Aguirre and Ygnacio del Valle. El Tejon means "The Badger" in Spanish. The rancho is now a part of the 270,000 acres Tejon Ranch.

Weedpatch (formerly, Weed Patch and Alexander's Corner) is a census-designated place (CDP) in the San Joaquin Valley, in Kern County, California, United States. Weedpatch is located 10 miles south-southeast of Bakersfield, at an elevation of 387 feet (118 m). As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,658, down from 2,726 reported at the 2000 census.
