Sequoia National Forest

Sequoia National Forest is located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The U.S. National Forest is named for the majestic Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) trees which populate 38 distinct groves within the boundaries of the forest. The Giant Sequoia National Monument is located in the national forest. Other notable features include glacier-carved landscapes and impressive granite monoliths.

The Needles (Sequoia National Forest)

The Needles are a series of massive granite rock formations rising up from the North Fork of the Kern River near its junction with the Little Kern River. The Needles Lookout is located 2.5 miles off the Western Divide Highway 10 miles north of Mountain Road 50. Johnsondale, California is the nearest town, with the Camp Whitsett, BSA camp around 4 miles from Johnsondale.

Freeman Creek

Freeman Creek Grove (also known as Lloyd Meadow Grove) is a grove of giant sequoias located in Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Sierra Nevada in eastern California. The area is a botanical reserve under administration by the Sequoia National Forest, except for one small inholding. The largest unlogged grove outside of a national park, it covers about 1,425 acres in the Freeman Creek Watershed, mainly south of Freeman Creek.

McIntyre Grove

McIntyre Grove is a sequoia grove in southern California and is part of the Belknap complex along with Wheel Meadow Grove and the smaller, compact Carr Wilson, or Bear Creek Grove. This grove complex offers beautiful trails through old-growth sequoias along Bear Creek and the Tule River. It is easy to get to by car throughout the year by paved road. The grove is about 2,460 acres . There are several trails through this grove, including Forest Trail 31E30 and 31E31.

Black Mountain Grove

Black Mountain Grove is a large sequoia grove containing more than 500 large trees, on the slopes of Black Mountain located between the Middle and South Forks of Tule River. It lies partly in the Tule River Indian Reservation. The grove is partly on Giant Sequoia National Monument, Tule River Indian Reservation and in private ownership and contains old and young growth sequoias. The main access to this grove is by road or hiking across country.
