Independence dike swarm

The Independence Dike Swarm is a major Late Jurassic dike swarm extending over 373 miles from the eastern Transverse Ranges northward to the east-central Sierra Nevada in southeastern California, United States. The swarm consists of hundreds of dikes, filled with mafic to felsic rocks and are individually about 10 feet in width. These dikes may be the roots of linear-fissure-array supervolcanoes.

Kearsarge Pass

Kearsarge Pass is a pass in the Sierra Nevada of California. The pass lies on the Sierra Crest at 11,709 feet . The pass permits foot traffic between Kings Canyon National Park and the John Muir Wilderness. The pass was named after the Kearsarge mine to the east, which was named by its owners after the USS Kearsarge, a ship that destroyed the CSS Alabama. The Alabama Hills were named after the latter ship, and the mine was named in reaction.
