Angeles Crest Highway

The Angeles Crest Highway is a two-lane (one lane of travel in each direction) segment of California State Route 2 in the United States. The road is 66 miles in length, with its western terminus at the intersection at Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge and its eastern terminus at State Route 138 northeast of Wrightwood. The majority of the route passes through the mountainous terrain located north of the Los Angeles basin.

Horse Flats

Horse Flats is a region of the San Gabriel mountains in the Angeles National Forest north of Los Angeles. It is known for its US Forest Service campground (open April 1-November 15) and for the excellent granite bouldering near the campground.

Waterman Mountain

Waterman Mountain, at 8,038 ft, is a prominent peak in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, California within the Angeles National Forest. Several small ski areas are located on its north side: Mount Waterman, Kratka Ridge, and Buckhorn Ski Club. The Buckhorn and Cooper campgrounds are below the Angeles Crest Highway. During Winter and early spring this mountain is packed with snow. Snow may even be found in September lying on Waterman mountain.

Silver Moccasin Trail

The Silver Moccasin Trail is a 53-mile trail located in the San Gabriel Mountains, just northeast of Los Angeles. It begins at Chantry Flat Recreation Area above the city of Arcadia, California, traversing upward and down through several canyons and along the high ridges of the Angeles National Forest. This trail connects Mt. Baden-Powell, Mount Burnham, Throop Peak and Mount Hawkins.

Stony Ridge Observatory

Stony Ridge Observatory is an astronomical observatory built by and for amateur astronomers in the mountains of Los Angeles County, California in 1963. When installed, its 760 mm Newtonian-Cassegrain likely ranked as the largest amateur telescope in the United States. Asteroids 10168 Stony Ridge and 144633 Georgecarroll were discovered at the observatory. In September 2009, Stony Ridge was at risk of being lost to a wildfire, but escaped with minimal damage.
