First Battle of Dalton
The First Battle of Dalton was a series of American Civil War skirmishes that took place between February 22 and February 27, 1864, in Whitfield County, Georgia. On February 22, Union Army Major General George H. Thomas decided to probe Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's troops, to determine if the loss of two divisions to reinforce Confederate forces elsewhere had made them vulnerable to attack.

Second Battle of Dalton
The Second Battle of Dalton was fought August 14–15, 1864, between Union and Confederate forces in Whitefield County northern Georgia. The Union force from the District of Etowah was commanded principally by Maj. Gen. James B. Steedman and the Confederate cavalry corps by Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler. After Wheeler's cavalry raided the northern part of Georgia, fighting began after a refusal of Union forces to surrender the area.

Chetoogeta Mountain Tunnel
The Chetoogeta Mountain Tunnel refers to two different railroad tunnels passing through Chetoogeta Mountain in northwestern Georgia, USA. The first tunnel was completed on May 7, 1850, as part of the construction of the Western & Atlantic Railroad (W & A), the first state road in Georgia. It was the first major railroad tunnel in the South and is 1,447 feet/≈0.27 mi or 441 meters in length. It was renovated in 1998-2000 and is now open to the public as a privately owned historic site.
