Villanow, Georgia

Villanow, Georgia is located in the Northwestern part of that state in Walker County. It is between Dalton and La Fayette, Georgia. It is a small community of a few thousand citizens only. Of that small population 93.3% are White, 3.2% are Black, 2.7% are Hispanic, 0.05% are Asian, and 0.5% are of another race. There are currently no schools that service the community of Villanow. Armuchee Valley Elementary School was closed in 1992, following a fire that destroyed the classrooms and offices.

Battle of Rocky Face Ridge

The Battle of Rocky Face Ridge was fought May 7–13, 1864, in Whitfield County, Georgia, during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. The Union army was led by Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman and the Confederate army by Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. Confederates were forced to evacuate their strong position due to a Union flanking movement. General Johnston had entrenched his army on the long, steep Rocky Face Ridge and eastward across Crow Valley.

First Battle of Dalton

The First Battle of Dalton was a series of American Civil War skirmishes that took place between February 22 and February 27, 1864, in Whitfield County, Georgia. On February 22, Union Army Major General George H. Thomas decided to probe Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's troops, to determine if the loss of two divisions to reinforce Confederate forces elsewhere had made them vulnerable to attack.
