The town was located 10.5 miles east-north-east of Greenville and was formerly called Stom's Landing (sometimes incorrectly spelled Stum). Green River Correctional Complex is a state prison located in Central City, Kentucky. It opened in 1994 and had a prison population of 982 as of 2007. It's a medium security adult male correctional facility and it is operated by the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, Department of Corrections.
