Us-kab-wan-ka River

Us-kab-wan-ka River is a small tributary of the Cloquet River in northeastern Minnesota in the United States. It is approximately 19.7 miles long. Along with its tributaries, the Us-kab-wan-ka drains an area of 40.43 square miles . Via the Cloquet River and the St. Louis River, it is part of the watershed of Lake Superior. It flows for its entire length in Grand Lake Township in southern St. Louis County.

Hermantown, Minnesota

Hermantown is a city in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 9,414 at the 2010 census. A suburb of Duluth, Minnesota, it has been the only city in the county to report population growth as much of the area's residential and commercial expansion occurs there. Hermantown is located near the tip of Lake Superior. The eastern section of the city has an appearance typical of a lower-density bedroom community, with large, leafy lots and occasional subdivisions.

Artichoke River

The Artichoke River is a 13.5-mile-long tributary of the St. Louis River in northeastern Minnesota in the United States. Via the St. Louis River, it is part of the watershed of Lake Superior. It flows for its entire length in southern St. Louis County. Its name in the Ojibwe language is askibwaanikaa-ziibi (river full of Jerusalem artichokes), having the identical name in Ojibwe as the near-by Us-kab-wan-ka River.

Brookston, Minnesota

Brookston is a city in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States; located along the Saint Louis River, opposite the mouth of the Artichoke River. The population was 141 at the 2010 census. Brookston is located 27 miles west of the city of Duluth; and 17 miles northwest of the city of Cloquet. U.S. Highway 2 and Saint Louis County Road 31 (CR 31) are two of the main arterial routes in the community.
