1966 Candlestick Park tornado
On March 3, 1966, a violent F5 tornado, dubbed the Candlestick Park tornado after the name of a Jackson, Mississippi shopping mall which was leveled by the storm, wrought catastrophic damage in Mississippi and Alabama along a 202.5 mi track. The tornado first touched down in Hinds County, Mississippi around 4:00 p.m. CST and moved towards northeast before dissipating at 7:45 p.m. CST in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.

Battle of Raymond
The Battle of Raymond was fought on May 12, 1863, near Raymond, Mississippi, during the Vicksburg Campaign of the American Civil War. The bitter fight pitted elements of Union Army Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Tennessee against Confederate forces of Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Department of the Mississippi and East Louisiana.

Hinds County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area and bordered on the north by the Yazoo River, which marks the southern edge of the Mississippi Delta. In the nineteenth century, it was developed for cotton plantations. Hinds County is named for General Thomas Hinds, a hero of the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. As of 2010, the population was 245,285. Its county seats are Jackson and Raymond.
