Hickory Motor Speedway

Hickory Motor Speedway is a short track located in Hickory, North Carolina. It is one of stock car racing's most storied venues, and is often referred to as "The World's Most Famous Short Track" and the "Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars". The track first opened in 1951 as a {{convert/{{{2}}}|1/2\\Mi|0|||||||r=re|d=LoffAoffDbSon|s=}} dirt track. Gwyn Staley won the first race at the speedway and later became the first track champion.

Catawba Valley Community College

Catawba Valley Community College is a public community college in Hickory, North Carolina. The college, established April 3, 1958, is part of the North Carolina Community College System. On December 1, 1987, the school's name was changed officially to Catawba Valley Community College, having previously been known as Catawba Valley Technical Institute and Catawba Valley Technical College. The main campus covers 120 acres and includes 11 buildings.

WHKY (AM)

WHKY is a 50,000 watt day and 1,000 watt night radio station in Hickory, North Carolina, broadcasting at 1290 kHz. Since 1987 WHKY has had a talk radio format. The current program line-up includes nationally-known shows Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and ESPN Radio. WHKY produces a two-hour weekday morning Talk Show called First Talk hosted by Hal Row and SportsTalk with Jason Savage on Thursday nights.

It is the larger of two high schools in the Newton-Conover City Schools system (the other being the Newton-Conover Health and Science High School).
