Mount Sterling is a mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains of Haywood County, North Carolina, located in the southeastern United States. It reaches an elevation of 5,842 feet above sea level. The summit is topped by an abandoned fire tower that gives stunning views of other nearby peaks. Mount Sterling crowns Mount Sterling Ridge, a 7-mile ridge that gradually descends northward from the flanks of Big Cataloochee Mountain (on the Balsam Mountain crest) to the Pigeon River Valley.

Walters Dam
Walters Dam is a hydroelectric dam in Haywood County of western North Carolina, in the Great Smoky Mountains. The concrete arch dam is 180 ft high by 800 ft long, impounding the Pigeon River, near Interstate 40. The brick powerplant actually stands 6.2 miles from the dam. A tunnel 6.2 miles long stretches north from the dam to the power plant, near the state line. The Walters Dam was started in 1927 and was completed in 1930.

Ghost Town in the Sky is a Wild West-themed amusement park in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, USA. An unusual aspect of this park is that it is located atop a mountain which can only be accessed by visitors via a 3,370-foot-long chair lift or an inclined funicular railway. These start at the parking area beside Jonathan Creek at an elevation of 3,150 feet, climbing to the lower level of the park at 4,400 feet, a climb of 1,250 feet .
