Among the industrial activities at the port site are a Cargill grain shipping facility, a cellulosic ethanol plant under construction, and a biogas plant under construction by Novus Pacific. The port is also building a $6 million museum called the Sustainable Agriculture and Energy Center.

Umatilla Chemical Depot
The Umatilla Chemical Depot, (UMCD) based in Umatilla, Oregon, was a U.S. Army installation in the United States that stored chemical weapons. The chemical weapons originally stored at the depot consisted of various munitions and ton containers containing GB and VX nerve agents and HD blister agent. All munitions have been safely destroyed by 2011 and base closure operation are expected to be completed by 2015.

Boardman Coal Plant
The Boardman Coal Plant is a coal-fired power plant located in Boardman, Oregon. The facility has a nameplate capacity of 550 megawatts (MWs) and is operated by Portland General Electric. The plant is the only remaining coal powered plant in Oregon and has received much attention from the regional media in recent years due to its being the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions in the state with environmental groups such as the Sierra Club calling for its closing.
