Falls City, Texas

Falls City, a mile southeast of the Wilson county line and seven miles northwest of Karnes City in northern Karnes County, owes its development to the railroad. Two earlier communities, Marcelina and Home Valley, had been located in the vicinity in the 1850s and 1860s, but people were not induced to settle the area until 1886, when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway built a switch and depot called Brackenridge, named after railroad benefactor George Washington Brackenridge.

Helena, Texas

Helena is a ghost town in Texas located approximately 70 mi southeast of San Antonio in Karnes County. The seat of Karnes County from 1854 to 1894, Helena was once known as the self-proclaimed "toughest town on earth" in the mid-19th century. It was named for the second wife of Lewis Owings, Helen Marr Swisher (1831–1910).

Karnes County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,824. Its county seat is Karnes City. Karnes County is named for Henry Karnes, a soldier in the Texas Revolution.
