Des Moines, Washington

Des Moines is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 29,673 at the 2010 census. Des Moines is located on the east shore of Puget Sound, approximately halfway between the major cities of Seattle and Tacoma. The city is bordered by the suburbs of Federal Way to the south, Kent to the east, Sea-Tac to the northeast, Burien to the north, and Normandy Park to the northwest.

Mount Rainier High School

Mount Rainier High School is a secondary school in Des Moines, Washington, United States; named for Mount Rainier which can be seen quite well from the school on a clear day, Mount Rainier serves approximately 1572 students and has been active since 1957. It was created to handle the overflow from nearby Highline High School, the district's first High School located in Burien, Washington.

Aviation High School (Washington)

Aviation High School, part of the Highline School District and currently located in Des Moines, Washington, is an aviation- and aerospace-themed school and one of the Highline School District's small schools. It is focused on preparing students for college, careers and citizenship. The school serves about 400 students in grades 9-12 from around the Puget Sound. From 2004-07, it was located at the South Seattle Community College - Duwamish campus.

Highline Community College

Highline Community College is a community college located in Des Moines, Washington, south of Seattle, Washington. Highline was founded in 1961 as the first community college in King County. The main campus is located on 80 acres of hilltop land that overlook Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains to the west. Currently there are approximately 10,000 students and 350,000 alumni of the college.

Saltwater State Park

Saltwater State Park is a 87.4 acres plot of second-growth timber on Puget Sound in the City of Des Moines, Washington, United States halfway between Seattle and Tacoma. The main attraction is 1,445 feet of saltwater beachfront, including a sandy swimming beach in the southwest corner, and rocky tideflats along the west with a submerged artificial reef that is popular with scuba divers. A forty-person group camp looks down on the beach from a high bluff.
