Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic is a state higher education institution in Gwanda, Zimbabwe, offering Diploma in Education. The Government of Zimbabwe plans major investment into the polytechnic, which will allow it to start offering degrees and resolve the accommodation shortage for students. The planned Gwanda State University shall be hosted by the Polytechnic whilst construction takes place.

Gwanda State University is a future state higher education institution that is planned to open in Gwanda, Zimbabwe in 2012. The university shall be hosted by the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic in Gwanda whilst construction takes place. It is planned that the university will start with two faculties, the Faulty of Mining Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture, with a Faculty of Industrial Management to follow later.

The name Gwanda derives from that of a nearby hill known as Jahunda. Gwanda also refers to the rural district around the town. According to the 1982 Population Census, the village had a population of 2,077. The village grew up as the residential and commercial centre for the employees of the Vubachikwe gold mine.
