Dara-I-Pech District

Dara-I-Pech District (also known as Manogay District or Pech District) is located western-central part of Kunar Province, Afghanistan, 30 km West from Asadabad. The population is 48,400 (2006). The district is governed from Mano Gai. The governor is Mohammad Rahkman. While the bulk of the population is Safi Pashtun, who are mostly settled along the Pech River, the district also includes the Pashai-speaking Korengalis in the southern portion of the Korengal Valley.

Korangal Valley

The Korangal Valley (or Korengal Valley, or Garangal Valley) in Afghanistan is located south of the Pech River in the Pech District of Kunar Province in northeastern Afghanistan. To the east is Asadabad, capital of Kunar Province, to the west is the Chapa Dara District, and to the south is the Chawkay District . In the south east there is Narang wa Badil District, and in the south west Nurgal District, which includes Shumast Aret.

Chapa Dara District

Chapa Dara District is situated in the western part of Kunar Province, Afghanistan and borders Nuristan Province. The population is 27,500 (2006). The district is mountainous and farming and animal husbandry are not possible in the whole district. Some people work abroad. Health care and the education need improvement.

Ghaziabad District, Kunar

Ghaziabad District is situated in the northern part of Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It was created in 2004 from the northern part of Bar Kunar District. The population is 7,500 (2004). The district center is the village of Ghaziabad at 1271 m altitude. The area is mountainous and there is little arable land. Many people work in Pakistan.

Battle of Wanat

The Battle of Wanat occurred on July 13, 2008, when about 200 Taliban guerrillas attacked NATO troops near the village of Wanat in the Waygal district in Afghanistan's far eastern province of Nuristan. The position was defended primarily by United States Army soldiers of the 2nd Platoon, Chosen Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.
