Huonville, Tasmania

Huonville is a town on the Huon River, in the south-east of Tasmania, Australia. The town lies within the Huon Valley Council area. It lies 38 km south of Hobart on the Huon Highway. At the 2006 census, Huonville had a population of 1,806 and at the 2011 census had a population of 1741. The first Europeans to set eyes on the Huon River were the crew commanded by Admiral Bruni d'Entrecasteaux. The river was named by him in honour of his second in command, Captain Huon de Kermadec.

Kingborough Council

The Kingborough Council or Municipality of Kingborough is a local government area of Tasmania, just to the south of Hobart, Tasmania. It includes the Hobart satellite town of Kingston and its surrounding suburbs, as well as several surrounding towns including Kettering, Margate, and Snug. It also includes the whole of Bruny Island.

Mount Wellington (Tasmania)

Mount Wellington is a mountain on whose foothills is built much of the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is often referred to simply as 'the Mountain' by the residents of Hobart, and it rises to 1,271 metres AHD over the city. It is frequently snow covered, sometimes even in summer and the lower slopes are thickly forested, but criss-crossed by many walking tracks and a few fire trails. There is also a sealed but narrow road to the summit, about 22 kilometres travel from the city.

Margate, Tasmania

Margate is a small seaside town on the Channel Highway between North-West Bay and the Snug Tiers, 7 kilometres south of Kingston in Tasmania, Australia. At the 2006 census, Margate had a population of 1,368. Although more people live in the immediate region around the town. Margate is part of the Kingborough Council and is a frequent 'pit-stop' for those travelling south towards Snug, Kettering or Bruny Island. Vineyards, grazing fields and stands of trees surround the town and its approaches.

Fern Tree, Tasmania

Fern Tree (at 450 metres), is Tasmania's highest community of any size. The name Fern Tree is adapted from the common name of the plant Dicksonia antarctica (Tasmanian Tree Fern) which grows abundantly in the area. Set beneath Mount Wellington, whose summit is at 1270 metres above sea level, Fern Tree is 13 km by road from Hobart's central business district.
