Tower of Kamyanyets

The Tower of Kamianiec, often called by the misnomer the White Tower, is the main landmark of the town of Kamianiec in Belarus. Erected in 1271–1289 by the architect Oleksa as a frontier stronghold on the northern border of the principality of Volhynia, it is the only such tower remaining to this day in the area.

Kamyanyets

Kamyanyets (also spelled as Kamenets and Kamjanec) is a town in the Brest Voblast of Belarus and the center of the Kamyanetski Rajon. The town is located in the northwestern corner of Brest voblast on the Liasnaja river, about 40 km north from Brest. In 2002, the population was about 9,000 people. Through Kamyanyets flows the river of Leśna Prawa.

Viskuli

Viskuli is a hunting estate in Belavezhskaya Pushcha forest, in Pruzhany Raion, Brest Voblast, Belarus, named after the former khutor Viskuli nearby, about 8 km from the Poland-Belarus border, 2 km south of Belarus Route P81. In 1950s, a residential complex was constructed for the state officials of the USSR and Byelorussian SSR. In 1991, Viskuli became known worldwide as the place where the Belavezha Accords were signed, which declared the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Belavezha Accords

The Belavezha Accords is the agreement that declared the Soviet Union effectively dissolved and established the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in its place. It was signed at the state dacha near Viskuli in Belovezhskaya Pushcha on December 8, 1991, by the leaders of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.
