The Stone Mushrooms

The Stone Mushrooms is a rock phenomenon near Beli Plast village in Bulgaria, on the road between Haskovo and Kardzhali. They are about 2.5 metres tall. The 3 hectares area is declared as natural resource on May 13, 1974 according to №РД-552 bill of the Ministry of Environment and Water. Interesting kinds of birds can be observed in the area: Short-Toed Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, Red-rumped Swallow, Black-eared Wheatear etc.

Perperikon

The ancient Thracian city of Perperikon is located in the Eastern Rhodopes, 15 km northeast of the present-day town of Kardzhali, Bulgaria, on a 470 m high rocky hill, which is thought to have been a sacred place. The village of Gorna Krepost ("Upper Fortress") is located at the foot of the hill and the gold-bearing Perpereshka River flows near it. Perperikon is the largest megalith ensemble in the Balkans. It is thought that the famous Temple of Dionysius is located at this location.

Chernoochene

Chernoochene is a village in central southern Bulgaria, part of Kardzhali Province. It is the administrative centre of Chernoochene municipality, which comprises in the northernmost part of Kardzhali Province. The village is located in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains and has a predominantly Turkish population. The village's name roughly means "place of the black-eyed people" in both Bulgarian and Turkish.
