Zlatna Panega (river)

Zlatna Panega is a river in central northern Bulgaria, originating from a karst source at the village of Zlatna Panega, Yablanitsa municipality, Lovech Province. During the Ottoman rule in Bulgaria (till 1878) it was known as "Altǎn Paneg". Zlatna Panega's source is the largest Karst source in Bulgaria and the water temperature is relatively constant throughout the year.

Saeva dupka

Saeva dupka is a cave in Northern Bulgaria near the village of Brestnitsa, Lovech Province . Its five halls and 400 metres of corridors offer some of the most beautiful cave formations in the country. Besides that the cave has hosted many Choral music performances, thanks to the excellent acoustic conditions. Saeva dupka was named after two brothers Seyu and Sae who used it as a hiding place during the Ottoman occupation of Bulgaria.

Geological Park Iskar-Panega

Geological Park Iskar-Panega is an UNESCO-run Geopark in Northern Bulgaria, located 3 km south of the municipal centre Lukovit. It consists of two sections: the Karlukovo Karst Complex lies in the valley of the Iskar River, while the Roadside Landscape Park "Panega" is at the Zlatna Panega valley. Started in 2006, it became the first geopark in Bulgaria, and created temporary employment for 20 previously unemployed people.

1978 Balkan Bulgarian Tupolev Tu-134 crash

The 1978 Balkan Bulgarian Tupolev Tu-134 crash occurred on 16 March 1978 when a Balkan Bulgarian Airlines Tupolev Tu-134 airliner on an international flight from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Warsaw Airport, Poland. On departure from Sofia, the aircraft was climbing to 8,850 metres, but at 4,900 m it turned on a heading of 050. It turned again to 270 then began an abnormal descent. The aircraft crashed near the village of Gabare, 130 km northeast of Sofia. All 73 on board died.
