Roman Catholic Diocese of Sofia and Plovdiv

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sofia and Plovdiv is a Roman Catholic diocese of the Latin Rite, which includes the whole southern part of Bulgaria. The remainder of Bulgaria is comprised in the Diocese of Nicopoli. The seat of the episcopal see is in Plovdiv. The diocese is immediately subject of the Holy See. The Cathedral of St Louis is in Plovdiv and there is a new co-cathedral in Sofia — the Cathedral of St. Joseph, consecrated on May 21, 2006 by Cardinal Angelo Sodano.

Council of Sardica

The Council of Sardica was one of the series of councils called to adjust the doctrinal and other difficulties of the Arian controversy, held most probably in 343 AD. The Roman Emperors Constans and Constantius II called for the council.

Yuzhen tsentralen

Yuzhen tsentralen is a Bulgarian region. The capital is Plovdiv, the second-largest city in Bulgaria. It includes five Bulgarians provinces: Plovdiv Province, Pazardzhik Province, Smolyan Province, Kardzhali Province and Haskovo Province. It is the second most important economical region of the country which together with the Yugozapaden region produce almost two thirds of the national GDP.

Asen's Fortress

Asen's Fortress (Bulgarian: Асенова крепост, Asenova krepost), identified by some researchers as Petrich (Петрич), is a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains, 2-3 km south of the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, the area of the fortress being also inhabited during the Ancient Roman and Early Byzantine period.

Church of the Holy Mother of God, Asen's Fortress

The Church of the Holy Mother of God (Bulgarian: църква „Света Богородица“, tsarkva „Sveta Bogoroditsa“) is the popular name of a medieval Eastern Orthodox church located in Asen's Fortress. It lies near Asenovgrad in the Rhodope Mountains of Plovdiv Province, south central Bulgaria. Constructed most likely in the 12th century, it features two stories, of which the upper story is the church proper and the lower story is of unclear function.
