Skakavitsa Waterfall

The Skakavitsa Waterfall (Bulgarian: Скакавица or Скакавишки водопад, Skakavishki vodopad) is the highest waterfall in the Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. It is part of Rila National Park and is located on the Skakavitsa River. The waterfall is situated on approximately 2,000 m above sea level, the water falling down from 70 m. The Skakavitsa Waterfall is one of the chief tourist attractions in the area owing also to the century-old endemic white fir (Pinum peuce) forests surrounding it.

Seven Rila Lakes

The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of lakes of glacial origin, situated in the northwestern Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. The lakes are situated between 2,100 and 2,500 metres elevation above sea level. Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature. The highest one is called Salzata ("The Tear") due to its clear waters that allow visibility in depth.

Iskar (river)

The Iskar is, with a length of 368 km, the longest river that runs solely in Bulgaria, and a tributary of the Danube. The Iskar is formed by three rivers, the Cherni (black) Iskar, Beli (white) Iskar and Levi (left) Iskar (known under the collective name Iskrove), with the source being accepted to be the Prav (straight) Iskar, a tributary of the Cherni Iskar. After descending from the north slopes of Rila, it fills the Iskar Reservoir—the largest in Bulgaria and the Lake Pancharevo.

Iskar Reservoir

The Iskar Reservoir (язовир „Искър“) is the largest reservoir in Bulgaria. It is situated on the Iskar River and provides 2/3 of the water for the capital Sofia, also being used for producing hydroelectricity. The reservoir has a total volume of 673 million m, of which 580 million are in use and the rest is reserve. The reservoir has a drainage basin of 1,046 km² and is 25 km long. It is situated at 820 m above sea level, its dam being 204 m long and 76 m high.
