Vardun

Vardun is a village in Targovishte Municipality, Targovishte Province, Bulgaria. Until the 1980s Vardun had over 300 Bulgarian dwellings and several gypsy’s dwellings, separated from the village towards Cherkovna. There were not at that time any Turks living in Vardun. Later on urbanization processes incited movements toward the chief Bulgarian towns. Gradually gypsies began to settle in Vardun and nowadays they form the majority of the population.

Dormition of the Theotokos Church, Targovishte

Dormition of the Theotokos Church (Bulgarian: Църква Св. Успение Богородично / Tsŭrkva Sv. Uspenie Bogorodichno) is an Eastern Orthodox church building in Targovishte. It is one of the finest examples of the middle and late Bulgarian National Revival church architecture. The building is situated in the Varosha Quarter - the old town in Targovishte. The church was built in the period 1847–1851 by Usta Dimitar from the Tryavna School.

Hristo Botev Comprehensive School, Targovishte

Hristo Botev School (Bulgarian: Училище Христо Ботев) is a comprehensive school in the town of Targovishte in the Targovishte Province, Bulgaria. Named after the Bulgarian poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev, the school is among the oldest ones in the town and province. It has 8 grades, separated in two educational levels. The first 3 grades are in the Primary level for children 7/8/9 years old. The next 5 grades are in the Secondary level for children aged 10–14.

St. John of Rila Church, Targovishte

St. John of Rila Church (Bulgarian: Църква Св. Иван Рилски / Tsarkva Sveti Ivan Rilski) is an Eastern Orthodox church building in Targovishte. It is named after the Bulgarian Saint John of Rila (876 – c. 946) who was the first Bulgarian hermit. The construction of the church started in 1912 but soon after that it was stopped because of the Balkan War. Finally it was completed in 1936. In 1961 unique wood-carved chancel-screen was made by professor Petar Kushlev.

Targovishte

Targovishte is a city in Bulgaria, the administrative and economic capital of Targovishte Province. It is situated at the northern foot of the low mountain of Preslav on both banks of the Vrana River. The town is 335 km north-east of the capital Sofia and about 125 km west of the city of Varna and Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Targovishte is known as an old market settlement.
