Karpass Peninsula

The Karpass Peninsula, also known as Karpasia or Karpas is a long, finger-like peninsula that is one of the most prominent geographical features of the island of Cyprus. Its farthest extent is Cape Apostolos Andreas, and its major population centre is the town of Rizokarpaso. Since 1974 the peninsula resides within the internationally-unrecognised Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Karpasia (town)

Karpasia, also Karpasion (sometimes mistaken for Karpathos) is said to have been founded by the Phoenician King Pygmalion of Tyre near Cape Sarpedon, now Cape St. Andreas, at the extreme end of the Karpass Peninsula on the north-east shore of Cyprus, a short distance north of the modern town of Rizokarpaso.
