Vemb

Vemb is a little town in west Jutland, Denmark with a population of 1,337 (1 January 2011). The town is close to Nissum Fjord and Storå. Vemb also has a station on the railway line between Ringkøbing and Holstebro. Two kilometers south of the town is Nørre Vosborg, a manor house surrounded by ramparts. It is one of Denmark's oldest and was mentioned as early as 1299. Vemb lies in Vemb Parish, which belongs to Holstebro Municipality in Region Midtjylland.

Nissum Fjord

Nissum Fjord is an inlet located in West Jutland, west of Vemb and is demarcated from the North Sea by a 13 km wide isthmus, Bøvling Klit, and passes through a lock in Thorsminde. The inlet has a water area of 70 km² or 7.000 ha. but the average water depth is only about 1 meter, and the deepest areas in Felsted Kog and the center of the inlet are between 2 to 3 meters. The northern part of the inlet, called Bøvling Fjord, is so shallow that it is sometimes completely drained by strong winds.

Ulfborg-Vemb Municipality

Ulfborg-Vemb was a municipality in the former Ringkjøbing County on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. By January 1, 2007 Ulfborg-Vemb municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with existing Holstebro and Vinderup municipalities to form the new Holstebro municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 790 km² and a total population of 56,204.

HMS Defence (1763)

HMS Defence was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 31 March 1763 at Plymouth Dockyard. She was one of the most famous ships of the period, taking part in several of the most important naval battles of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. In 1811 she was wrecked off the coast of Jutland with the loss of almost her entire crew.

HMS St George (1785)

HMS St George was a 98-gun second rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 14 October 1785 at Portsmouth. In 1793 she captured one of the richest prizes ever. She then participated in the Naval Battle of Hyères Islands in 1795 and took part in the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. She was wrecked off Jutland in 1811 with the loss of almost all her crew.
