Nyborg Municipality

Nyborg municipality is a municipality in Region of Southern Denmark on the east coast of the island of Funen in central Denmark. The municipality, including the island of Sprogø, covers an area of 278 km², and has a total population of 31,607 (2008). Its mayor is Jørn Terndrup, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Nyborg. The island of Sprogø lies in the Great Belt ca.

Sprogø

Sprogø is a small, protected Danish island, which is located in the Great Belt, the strait that separates the main islands of Funen and Zealand. It lies about halfway across the strait, 6.7 km from the Zealand shore and 8 km from the Funen shore. Today, the island forms part of the Great Belt fixed link, and is connected to Funen by a road and rail bridge, and to Zealand by both a road suspension bridge and twin rail tunnels. The island is crossed when using the link.

Until January 1, 2007 Ørbæk municipality was a municipality in the former Funen County on the east coast of the island of Funen in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 138 km², and had a total population of 6,886 (2005). Its last mayor was Kaj Refslund, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Ørbæk. Other towns in the municipality were Måre, Refsvindinge, Svindinge, Tårup, and Tårup Strand.
