Viljandi County (Estonian: Viljandi maakond or Viljandimaa, German: Kreis Fellin), is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is located in southern Estonia bordering Pärnu, Järva, Jõgeva, Tartu and Valga counties. 55,657 people live in Viljandi County – constituting 4.2% of the total population in Estonia (as of January 2009).

Lake Viljandi
Lake Viljandi (Estonian: Viljandi järv; 1.55 km²) is a lake in Viljandi County, Estonia. The lake lies in the deep primeval valley of Viljandi, depth 11 m, length 4.6 km, width 450 m. The Uueveski and Valuoja streams and a number of springs flow into the lake. In the south-western part of the lake the Raudna River flows out. The main fish in the lake are the bream, the roach, the perch and the pike. The lake and its shores make up the Viljandi landscape protection area.

Viljandi Castle
Viljandi castle of Teutonic Order, construction of which started 1224 in place of a former hillfort, was one of the strongest castles in Livonia. Finally destroyed in the Polish-Swedish wars in early 17th century, ruins of it now form a popular resort area in Viljandi, Estonia.

Battle of Viljandi
The Battle of Viljandi was a battle during the Livonian Crusade in 1211. The battle ended with no decisive victory for the invaders as they were unable to take the stronghold. They did however, manage to baptise the people inside the stronghold. In spring 1211, a larger objective for the Livonian Brothers of the Sword was to take the stronghold of Viljandi.
