Kajaani University of Applied Sciences

Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (Finnish: Kajaanin ammattikorkeakoulu, KAMK) is a university of applied sciences in Kajaani, Finland. It was established in 1992. In 2011, the newspaper Talouselämä ranked Kajaani University of Applied Sciences as the best polytechnic in Finland.

Kajaani railway station

The Kajaani railway station was built from 1904 to 1905, when the railway from Iisalmi to Kajaani was completed as an extension to the Savonia railroad. The station building was designed by Gustaf Nyström. This Jugend building has been called the most beautiful station building in Finland.

Kajaani Castle

The Kajaani castle was built on the Ämmäkoski island of the Kajaani river in the centre of Kajaani, Finland, in the 17th century. Today, only roofless ruins remain of the castle. The castle functioned as an administrative centre, a prison, and a military strongpoint. The most famous prisoner in the castle was the historian Johannes Messenius, who was forced to live in the poor conditions of the castle from 1616 to 1635. Construction of the Kajaani castle began in 1604 and was completed in 1619.

Kajaani River

Kajaani River is a river in the Province of Oulu and in the region of Kainuu, Finland. The river runs from Lake Nuasjärvi to Lake Oulujärvi through the city of Kajaani. From there the waters flow trough the Oulujoki river into the Gulf of Bothnia. The river drains a chain of lakes that originates in the municipalities of Kuhmo and Sotkamo in Kainuu.
