Kymenlaakso

Kymenlaakso is a region in Finland. It borders to the regions Uusimaa, Päijänne Tavastia, Southern Savonia, and South Karelia. Its name means literally The Valley of River Kymijoki. Kymijoki is one of the biggest rivers in Finland with a drainage basin with 11% of the area of Finland. The town of Kotka with 55,000 inhabitants is located at the delta of River Kymijoki and has the most important import harbour in Finland.

Kyminlinna

Kyminlinna, ″the castle of Kymi″, is a fortress located in the northern part of Hovinsaari island in Kotka, Finland. Kyminlinna is part of the South-Eastern Finland fortification system built by Russia after Russo-Swedish War of 1788-1790. Kyminlinna formed the northern part of a double fortress together with Ruotsinsalmi sea fortress, where Kyminlinna was intended to repulse land-based attacks along the King's Road.

Langinkoski Church

Langinkoski Church, is one of five Kymenlaakso-region Lutheran churches in Finland's Kotka-Kymi parish union. Located in the Metsola district of Kotka, the rectangular church was designed by Anders-Olof Bengts and completed in 1953. The interior was constructed to resemble a medieval stone church; the hall can accommodate about 300 pople and is wheelchair-accessible. The church features Hilkka Toivola's colourful stained-glass window depicting Jesus rescuing a self-doubting Peter from drowning.

Tarmo (1907 icebreaker)

Tarmo is a Finnish steam-powered icebreaker preserved in the Maritime Museum of Finland in Kotka. Built in 1907 by Sir W.G. Armstrong, Whitworth & Co Ltd in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, she was the third state-owned icebreaker of Finland and the last Finnish steam-powered icebreaker to remain in service. When Tarmo was decommissioned in 1970, a decision was made to preserve the vessel as a museum ship.
