The Irish Republic, more commonly referred to as the Republic of Connaught or Republic of Connacht, was a short-lived French client republic established by the French Revolutionary Army and United Irishmen during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. It lasted for about 12 days, from 27 August to 8 September, and comprised the northern part of the province of Connacht in Ireland.

Westport House
Westport House in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland is the stately home of the Marquess of Sligo. It was built by the Browne family in the 18th Century, on the site of an O'Malley castle whose dungeons are still present today. The architects were Richard Cassels who built (1730) the east section of the house facing the town, and later James Wyatt who built the other three facades to form a quadrangle. Later the quadrangle was filled in with a grand staircase.

The N59 road is a national secondary road in Ireland. It commences in County Sligo, south of Sligo Town at the Belladrehid interchange with the N4 north of Ballysadare. The route circles around the west of Ireland, passing west from Sligo into County Mayo and through Ballina. The N59 continues around Mayo, proceeding indirectly to Westport. Continuing south through Mayo into County Galway, the road passes through the village of Leenaun.
