Horomanga River
The Horomanga River is a river of the northeastern North Island of New Zealand. The river flows north through Te Urewera National Park, reaching its confluence with the Rangitaiki River 12 kilometres north of Murupara. There is a walking track through the forested section of the river and Midway Hut is located about 7 km upstream from where the river leaves the Ikawhenua Range.

Murupara is a town located in the North Island of New Zealand. The town is situated in an isolated part of the Bay of Plenty region between the Kaingaroa Forest and Te Urewera National Park, on the banks of the Rangitaiki River, 65 kilometres southeast of Rotorua, along SH38 . Murupara is the terminus of the Murupara Branch railway. Its principal industries are all related to forestry.

The bay was named by James Cook after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Māori villages there, in stark contrast to the earlier observations he had made in Poverty Bay. In the 2006 Census, the Bay of Plenty had an estimated resident population of 257,379, making it the fifth-most populous region in New Zealand.
